Railroad Spike Knife

  • There is a simple truth to Railroad Spike Knives. Although they are certainly usable (each one is "tempered" and sharpened), they are meant to be a collectible knife and they make great conversation pieces. If you are a knife collector and, displayed between two of your most prized knives is my Railroad Spike Knife, a visitor will invariably pick up the latter and say, "Wow, is this really a railroad spike!?".

The process begins with a legally purchased spike that, when heated to a blinding orange color, only the very tip of the spike gets hammered repeatedly, flattened, and drawn out into what eventually becomes the blade of the knife. After forging hundreds of these knives, I decided to source a top quality handmade leather sheath.
